Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, formerly known as Nagpur University, was come into existence on 4th August, 1923. At the time of establishment it had 6 affiliated colleges.
During 1947, the expansion of library and sports facilities took place. In 1958, some new Departments of Arts and Social Science were started. Major expansion came in the year 1963 with several science and other teaching Departments establishment. In 1972-73, several career oriented courses were started. At Present University has 37 Postgraduate Teaching Departments, 3 Constituent Colleges/Institutions. It has 439 affiliated colleges.
